Welcome, I am Amanda Fee (Senior Nursery Manager)
I have been with Seymour House for over 10 years, during this time I have been the Manager of 3 locations all of which have been judged outstanding by Ofsted. I am delighted to now be based at Brinkley Lane which has been designed specifically for young children to be a stimulating and fun learning environment. All of the Brinkley Lane team are committed to childcare and early years education and are hand picked for their kind and caring natures. I would be delighted to discuss our setting with you and answer any questions you may have.
Hello,
I am Pippa Hyde
(Head of Early Years Practice)
I have just joined the
excellent team here at Seymour House. My background
within early years includes, ten years experience
working with children, families and practitioners in
pre-school, primary school and child-minding
settings. Alongside this I have gained knowledge of
the theory which underpins our practice, through
achieving both the Foundation Degree in Early Years
Childcare and Education and the BA (Hons)
Professional Studies in Early Childhood.
I am passionate when it
comes to providing the best care and learning
experiences for children. This provides children
with the firm foundations on which to build their
future learning and development. Naturally
children’s learning through play ensures they are
always having lots of fun!
I look forward to
welcoming you and your child to our setting.
The Team
Brinkley Lane has 17 team members. All team members are qualified to at least an NVQ level 3 but we also benefit from two BA (hons) Early Years, 4 NNEB’s, 3 NVQ level 3’s and 5 DCE’s.
Each member of our team is hand picked to provide truly outstanding care and education.
Each home based room is organised with appropriate facilities for the stage of development it caters for. There is space for arts and crafts, messy activities and sand and water play. There is also a book and story area and the IT area which has an interactive table to allow children to develop IT skills.
As well as planned activities being provided both indoors and outdoors, children are able to play with a large range of equipment which they are encouraged to access themselves.
Ofsted Inspections
Day nursery schools in England are inspected by Ofsted on a four year cycle. Each inspection looks at fourteen aspects of the provision and each can be judged to be inadequate, satisfactory, good or outstanding. We were recently inspected by Ofsted (April 2011) and found to be outstanding in all areas. You can read the independent report here.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and beyond
The period from birth to the end of the Reception Year at school is known as the Early Years Foundation Stage. Children develop more quickly at this stage than at any other time in their lives and lay the foundations for life long learning. Young children learn best through play and exploration. Our practitioners provide the children with opportunities for appropriate play and learning experiences, as well as support for their stage in development. The activities will underpin the skills children will develop when they go to school.
Key Person
One specific member of the nursery team will be chosen to be your child Key Person. Their role is to provide continuity of care and to communicate with you regularly to ensure your child’s needs are met. They will also invite you to contribute to the planning process helping to ensure that all activities are appropriate for a child’s level of development.
Beyond the EYFS
As a high quality early years education provider, we endeavour to create a solid foundation for your child’s academic, social and emotional success. Your child’s experiences with us should not only benefit them now, but also in the future. The support is not just aimed at children, choosing a school and the application process can be confusing, particularly if its your first time.
The Prepared for School section of our website details the support we offer to our parents and children that is wider than the normal nursery school scope. Many parents are particularaly interested our reading and writing scheme which was developed by us specifically for Seymour House children and parents.
Below are just a few of the brilliant oppertunities we offer:
- Annual graduation ceremony celebrating the children’s achievements at nursery and being ready for ‘big school’.
- Guest speakers – dental hygienists, police officers, local vets and postmen provide children with an insight into ‘people who help us’ within the local community.
- Outdoor sensory house
- Vegetable patch – children enjoy tasting their own grown vegetables for snacks and tea.
- Monthly stay and play sessions for parents and grandparents
- Celebrations from around the world – parents and family members invited in to talk about family traditions.
