Hello, I
am Glynis Cotterill the Manager of Salcott Crescent.
I joined the

I am Lisa Paisley Head of
Early Years Practice here at Seymour House in Wickford.
I have recently joined the
team here at Seymour House and find the nursery
children, parents and staff very warm and welcoming. I
have been an early years professional for over twenty
years and for the last thirteen years I have been
working for Ofsted. I am passionate about
developing effective best practice for children in early
years and ensuring children are given the best
opportunities to help prepare them for school.
As the HoEYP I am primarily focused
on providing outstanding care and education for the
children. We ensure our children are developing and
ultimately prepared for the next step in their
educational journey.
Ofsted commented that at Wickford “the provision for promoting children’s learning and development is excellent." The children can choose between indoor and outdoor play with all rooms having their own designated stimulating outdoor classroom appropriate to their stage of development. Outdoors they can explore, counting different birds, build dens, create building areas, growing and planting areas or perhaps simply sit quietly listening to stories and poems and exploring mark making. Information and technology helps children develop an understanding of the World in which they are growing up in and supports their learning across all areas. Wickford was the first of our nurseries to use what might be the first interactive nursery table enabling our children to interact with this technology as intuitively as picking up a paintbrush.
In 2009 the nursery was confirmed as outstanding by Ofsted. The team were judged to be “fully responsive to the interests and needs of the children and provide excellent learning opportunities and support to ensure that the children make rapid progress.” There is a real excitement about learning here, with our older children proudly demonstrating their writing skills and proudly pointing out their accomplishments. Parents and carers are kept up to date with their child’s learning and development. For example, through parent bulletins, daily care cards for under twos, stay and play sessions, parent information evenings, questionnaires and parent noticeboards.
The period from birth to the end of the Reception Year at school is known as the Early Years Foundation Stage. Children develop more quickly at this stage than at any other time in their lives and lay the foundations for life long learning. Young children learn best through play and exploration. Our practitioners provide the children with opportunities for appropriate play and learning experiences, as well as support for their stage in development. The activities will underpin the skills children will develop when they go to school.
Key Person
One specific member of the nursery team will be chosen to be your child's Key Person. Their role is to provide continuity of care and to communicate with you regularly to ensure your child’s needs are met. They will also invite you to contribute to the planning process helping to ensure that all activities are appropriate for a child’s level of development.
